This is the same system found on many of SIG SAUER’s other firearms, and while it does work I think most people would appreciate it if they had gone with a more commonly available system like keymod.
There are other options available for the handguards from the factory, including a slimmer Magpul M-LOK system, but again I really prefer either keymod or a standard Picatinny rail.
The most obvious change to the gun from the 556 Classic design is the addition of a set of metal handguards with a proprietary modular rail attachment system.
in large numbers, a collector who went by the screen name of Withergyld started collecting information about the Yugo SKS to help determine when different running changes were made in the development and production of the Yugo SKS.
The last updates to Withergylds site was in the 2007-2008 timeframe, and while there has been speculation of his fate on the forums he was an active member of, such as Gun Boards, SKSBoards and others, a final word of what happened has not been communicated.
There are no Chinese characters, but there is near the serial number printed in English "SKS7.62 MADE BY NORINCO IN CHINA CSI ONT CA" (or very similar to that, I'm not at home right now)Sorry no pics, I don't have any on me at work.
The work Withergyld did was very helpful for both new and experienced collectors of the SKS.
BEFORE YOU LINK ME TO GOOGLE, I've done research on how to estimate the date of an SKS.
